Xbox Audio Settings — Party Chat

We recommended these audio settings when you're hanging with friends in an XBOX party. These audio settings are the cleanest setup and let’s the oTo Shine.

1. Press the Xbox button (center of your controller) to open the main menu.
2. Go to Volume & audio settings — bottom-right corner, the speaker icon.
3. Headset Volume → set to 100% (adjust to preference).
4. Headset Chat Mixer → 100% Party Chat. You'll hear only your teammates. Letting game sound through here can overwhelm the single speaker and can make friends hard to hear.
5. Mic Monitoring → 0%.

Xbox Audio Settings — Game Chat

Some games route teammates/peers voices through in-game (game) chat. In those cases you may need to let a little game audio through so you can hear people — but keep voices in front.

 

1. Press the Xbox button to open the main menu.
2. Go to Volume & audio settings (speaker icon, bottom-right).
3. Headset Volume → 100% (adjust to preference).
4. Headset Chat Mixer → start around 70% Party Chat / 30% Game Chat. Adjust it based on the game. Some titles let you stay at 100% Party Chat and still hear peers in game chat; others need game chat mixed in. Since the oTo has one speaker, too much game audio will bury your teammates — keep the mix tilted toward voices.
5. Mic Monitoring → 0%.
   
   It is also recommended to go inside your Games Audio Settings and adjust the Voice Channel audio settings up, so that your teammates come through more prominently on the oTo

Your oTo is a communication tool, not a headset. It has one front-firing speaker, and that speaker is designed for a specific job: Headset-free communication to hear your teammates' voices.

Game sound can come from the oTo but it's preferred that it gets sent through your TV. Need to hear footsteps? Plug your headset into the oTo.

The shift: Out of the box, Xbox pushes game audio into your headset/oTo. That Game sound audio can flood the oTo's speaker, and it may fight voice chat — your teammates' voices may get buried if your audio setting are not set up properly.

If not, adjust the Audio mix toward voice.
